Why we built the register
The Philippines has a shipbuilding and ship repair industry that nobody has properly counted. That is what this register is for.
The question nobody can answer.
Ask how many working shipyards there are in the Philippines and you will get a different answer from every office you ask. Ask which of them can take a 90-metre vessel with a 5-metre draft next month, and nobody can answer at all.
Owners lose weeks ringing yards one at a time. Yards lose work they could easily have taken, because the superintendent never knew they existed. And the agencies planning for the sector work from filings that were never meant to describe capacity.
Shipways keeps one current record of what this country can build and repair, and puts it in front of the people who need it.

Shipways is published by Shipways Marine Corp., a privately owned Philippine company. We are not a government agency, we hold no regulatory mandate, and we do not accredit anyone. MARINA accredits shipyards; we record what has been accredited and check it with the yard.
We work with industry associations and public bodies as partners and as sources of data.
